Terms of Service

Last updated May 31, 2026

In plain language: Magpie reads your statements to organize your money and surface tips. It is a tool, not a financial adviser, so verify anything that matters. You keep your data and can export or delete it any time. The first 14 days are free with no card; after that it is $84 a year. These terms cover the rest of the details.

1. Accepting these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Magpie ("we", "us") covering your use of the Magpie app, website, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

If you are using Magpie on behalf of a business or another person, you confirm you have the authority to accept these terms for them. Some features may also have their own posted rules; where those apply, they form part of this agreement.

2. What Magpie is

Magpie is an AI tool that reads your bank statements, sorts and categorizes your transactions, and surfaces tips and answers to help you understand your own money. It is built to do the reading and the math so you can see what is worth acting on.

Magpie is informational only. It is not financial, tax, investment, accounting, or legal advice. The tips it surfaces and the answers it gives are starting points, not professional guidance, and they are not a substitute for a qualified adviser. Before you act on anything that matters (a tax filing, a deduction, a major financial decision), verify it with the appropriate authority or professional, such as a licensed accountant or tax adviser. You are responsible for the decisions you make.

3. Your account

To use the Service you create an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure, and for all activity that happens under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, tell us promptly at hello@askmagpie.app.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to use Magpie. The Service is intended for your own personal and financial information, or information you are authorized to manage.

4. AI and automated features

Magpie uses AI and automated systems to read your statements, categorize your transactions, generate tips, and answer the questions you ask ("Ask Magpie"). These features are the core of how Magpie works.

By using these features, you authorize and consent to Magpie processing your financial data through AI and automated systems in order to deliver these results to you. This processing happens to serve you, to organize your money and surface what is useful, and for no other purpose.

Your data is private and is not used to train AI models. We do not sell it, and we do not feed it into model training. Tips and answers are generated from your own transactions, not from the open internet. For the full picture of how your data is handled, see our Privacy Policy and our security page.

AI output can be imperfect. A category can be wrong, a figure can be misread, an answer can miss context. Everything Magpie produces is informational, and you are responsible for checking it before you rely on it. Every figure traces back to a transaction you can open and verify yourself. Where a decision carries real consequences, confirm it against your statements and, where appropriate, a professional.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use Magpie lawfully and as intended. In particular, you agree not to:

You should only upload statements and financial data that belong to you or that you have the right to share with us.

6. Subscription, trial, and billing

Magpie is a paid subscription with a free trial to start.

Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, and your use of payment features may be subject to that provider's terms.

7. Your data and content

You own your data. The statements, transactions, and other financial information you bring to Magpie remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and display your data solely to provide the Service to you: to read your statements, categorize your transactions, generate tips, and answer your questions. We use it for nothing else. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models.

You can export everything as CSV or JSON whenever you like, and you can delete your account and all of its data on request. Once it is gone, it is gone. For the details on how we collect, store, and handle your data, see our Privacy Policy and our security page.

8. Intellectual property

The Service itself, including the Magpie software, brand, name, logo, design, and the content we create, is owned by Magpie or its licensors. These terms do not transfer any of that to you.

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable right to use the Service for its intended purpose while your account is active and you are in compliance with these terms. This does not include any right to copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service, except as expressly permitted in these terms.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that it will meet your particular needs.

We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any tip, category, calculation, or answer, and we do not guarantee any particular savings or financial outcome. As set out above, Magpie is informational and is not professional advice. You rely on its output at your own discretion and remain responsible for verifying it.

10. Limitation of liability

Magpie and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, savings, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

11. Termination

You may stop using Magpie and close your account at any time. When you cancel, the rules in the subscription section above apply.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, use the Service in a way that creates risk for us or other users, or where we reasonably need to in order to protect the Service. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give you notice.

On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Before your data is removed, you can export everything as CSV or JSON so you keep your own copy. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) continue to apply after termination.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example as the Service changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is material, we will give you reasonable notice, such as by email or a notice in the app.

If you continue to use the Service after an update takes effect, you accept the revised terms. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using the Service and close your account.

13. Contact

Questions about these terms, or anything else about Magpie, reach us at hello@askmagpie.app. We read these ourselves.
