About Magpie

We built the money app we wanted to use.

Most money apps show you charts and call it a day, leaving you to do the reading, the math, and the worrying. We wanted the opposite: something that does the thinking, hands you the next move with a dollar amount on it, and never asks you to trade your data for the privilege.

So we built Magpie. It reads your statements, sorts every transaction, and watches in the background for the money you are quietly losing: a dormant subscription, a quiet price hike, cash idling at a near-zero rate, a deduction you forgot to claim. It is built for the self-employed and for ordinary salaried savers alike. Canada-forward on the tax side today, useful anywhere your money lives.

What we believe

A few principles we will not trade away.

Asking someone to upload their bank statements is a serious request. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, so the answer can be yes.

Your data is yours

Magpie reads your statements and nothing more. Access is read-only, so it can never move your money. Export everything as CSV or JSON whenever you like, and delete your account and all of its data on request.

Numbers are facts

No vague nudges, no "looking good." Every tip carries a specific dollar amount and the transaction behind it (Adobe CC at $54.99/mo, last opened Mar 28), so you can check the work and decide for yourself.

We never sell or train on your data

Your statements are not a product. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or feed it to AI models. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and stays your data alone.

A companion, not a dashboard

Most apps hand you charts and leave the work to you. Magpie does the reading and the math, then surfaces the next move. You ask a question the way you would say it out loud, and it answers from your own accounts.

How we make money

You pay us, so you are the customer.

Magpie is a paid subscription: $7 a month, billed annually, with the first 14 days free. That is the whole business model. When the customer is the person paying, the incentives stay pointed at being genuinely useful: every dollar we earn comes from someone who finds Magpie worth keeping, not from advertisers or data buyers who would rather you not.

  • One price, everything included
$84 a year covers unlimited accounts, statements, tips, and Ask Magpie, plus the iOS and Android apps the day they ship. No upsells, no add-ons.
  • 14 days free, no card
Enough time to see what Magpie finds in your own numbers before you decide. Pay once it has already paid for itself.
  • No ads, no data sales
We do not run ads, sell your data, or take referral fees for steering you toward a product. The subscription is how we stay independent.
Where Magpie came from

We started Magpie because we kept doing the same thing every few months: exporting statements into a spreadsheet, squinting at them for an hour, and finding a subscription we had forgotten or a deduction we had missed.

The money was always there to find. The problem was the hour, and that you had to remember to look. We figured a careful reader who never gets bored could do that work continuously, in the background, and just tell you the specific thing worth acting on. That reader is Magpie.

We are a small team that cares more about getting the numbers right than about growing fast. We read the support emails ourselves, and a good part of what ships next comes from what members ask for. If you try it and something is wrong, tell us. We would rather hear it.
